How effective is PBIS at Rolling Ridge Elementary?

  • Here at Rolling Ridge Elementary we utilize a system called Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions (PBIS) to help promote positive student behavior.  For more information about the PBIS system, please view our Parent Information Video located on the left side of this screen.

Throughout the year we conduct reviews of the PBIS system to see how effective it is at our school.  The graph to the left shows the scores of the last four reviews conducted.  During these reviews we take a close look at our Behavior Expectations that are taught and referred to daily, we make sure we are reviewing annual data to see in what ways we can support students, we collect feedback from students and staff on how well they understand the School Wide Expectations, and additional areas to help guide us in way to improve our school-wide supports.

Tier 1 refers to the supports put in place and available to all students.  Examples of these supports are: Behavior Definitions, consistent language in how we teach and promote positive behavior, consistency in how discipline is handled when necessary, and guidance lessons on behavior that can be provided school-wide as needed.

Tier 2 consists of supports that are provided to students who need additional support beyond what is made available to all students, students receiving Tier 2 supports tend to make up 10-15% of the student population.  With the addition of a full time MTSS-B Intervention Counselor for the 22/23 school year we have been able to provide Tier 2 supports and interventions in the form of Small Group Skills Based Lessons and a daily Check-In Check-Out intervention for those students who benefit from having a positive connection with a trusted staff member to help encourage a successful day.

Tier 3 consists of individualized supports and interventions for students with higher needs.  These students tend to make up 1-5% of the student population and supports come in the form of individualized academic interventions as well as individualized behavior interventions.  Tier 3 has been available at Rolling Ridge for some time but is now receiving fine tuning to help improve the supports available.
