    Greetings, Ayala Students and Parents,

    In our Ayala classroom, we adhere to learning strategies based on current brain research.

    Course Objectives 

    All students participate in reading, writing, listening, speaking in the new language. 

    Culture

    All students grow in their knowledge of the new culture.   

    Preferred Materials 

    Dark-ink pen & one marble composition notebook 

    Class Norms 

    • Appreciate others. 
    • Try not to offend or harm. 
    • Honor individuals & relationships. 
    • Make a situation better rather than worse. 
    • Ask questions when there is confusion or a problem. 
    • When possible, do all of the above enthusiastically and creatively.

    Grade Scheme 

    Quizzes/Tests             = 20% 

    Daily activity  points  = 40%

    Notebook Project       = 40%

    Daily Points Rubric 

    • 25% - Reading attentively for the entire reading period
    • 25% - being a good partner - turning towards them and engaging the entire 'partner work' time
    • 25% - speaking loudly enough to be heard, during class choral speaking time // fully writing out each written response to the class activity prompt
    • 25% - Misc [arriving on time //  saying 'hello & goodbye' // general social behavior required for academics // engaging in all group behaviors with enthusiasm]

     

    Notebook Rubric 

    • 40% - neatness/ legibility
    • 40% - complete -- all entries are present
    • 20% - the date of each entry is clearly written

     

    Student Responsibilities 

    1) Ayala ELD, French & Spanish classes generally follow specific and general Ayala & CVUSD policies. 

    In particular -- Cell phone use is expressly outlined as a major hindrance to engagement; therefore, cell phone use is at the teacher's discretion only.  This rule is posted and emphasized.

    2) Students use good judgment to take care of personal needs.
