Chino Hills High students mount campaign on dangers of driving distracted, impaired

  • Chino Hills High’s Peer Leadership students have been busy this month making their fellow students aware of the dangers of distracted and impaired driving.

Under the leadership of their advisor Chino Hills High teacher Karen Reyes, they are participating in the Teen-To-Teen Safe Driving Campaign contest sponsored by the Allstate Foundation and Safety Center.

The students have painted and displayed 75 posters around campus, included a statistic about safe driving in daily school announcements, created a public service announcement safe driving video, and visited every U.S. History class at their school to give a short presentation and show the video.

In addition, they offered a survey about student driving habits and will conclude the campaign with another survey to see if student have become more aware drivers.

The Peer Leadership students participated in the Homecoming Parade in the school stadium on Friday, Oct. 13, drawing attention to their cause.

This week, they will distribute clothespin car crafts with a safe driving reminder on them to Chino Hills High students. They will also post additional flyers around campus.

In the final week of the campaign, later this month, they will ask students to sign a “Safe Driving Pledge” during lunch.
