Intervention Curriculum

  • Kindergarten-2nd Grade - UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute)

UFLI focuses on phonemic awareness (sounds) and phonics (blending and segmenting words).  UFLI also teaches heart words (high frequency words), sentence reading, and comprehension through drawing and writing short descriptions of a passage.

3rd Grade - Advanced Word Study & Word Connections

Advanced Word Study focuses on breaking apart multisyllabic words by their syllable type.  Students will also read passages where they can practice the syllable rules to sound out/blend words together.  After working on syllables, this program switches to morphology lessons (prefixes, suffixes, roots.)

Word Connections focuses primarily on morphology.  Students will learn and review many different prefixes and suffixes and their meanings.  This program also reviews phonetic sounds and reading passages.

4th Grade - Word Connections & Illuminate Passages

Word Connections focuses primarily on morphology.  The students will learn and review prefixes, suffixes, and root words which will assist them in sounding out multisyllabic words and understand their meaning.  This curriculum also has students reading passages and understanding the gist/overview of the reading.

Illuminate is a district adopted program that allows teachers to create reading passages.  Students read passages and then answer Common Core questions.  Students also practice academic vocabulary while working on these passages.

    5th & 6th Grade- Math & Illuminate Passages

Math review will consist of students working on math skills that are being taught in class.

Illuminate is a district adopted program that allows teachers to create reading passages.  Students read passages and then answer Common Core questions.  Students also practice academic vocabulary while working on these passages.
