Welcome to Mr. Blackburn's English 9CP Class!
Welcome to 9th Grade English! In this course, we will embark on a journey through timeless literature, exploring themes, characters, and ideas that continue to shape our understanding of the world. Through our readings of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, Collins' The Hunger Games, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and Homer's The Odyssey, we will analyze the human experience, challenge our perspectives, and develop essential skills in critical thinking, reading, writing, and communication.
Supplementing our literary studies will be a range of non-fiction articles and essays that connect our readings to current events, encouraging us to think critically about the world around us. Throughout the year, you will have opportunities to express yourself through various mediums, including writing, public speaking, presentations, and visual arts.
About Mr. Blackburn
Hello! I'm Mr. Blackburn, and I'm thrilled to be your 9th Grade English teacher. A bit about me: I graduated from UC Irvine in 2014 and have been teaching ever since. I live in Orange County with my wonderful wife and two kids. When I'm not teaching, you can find me advising the Dungeons and Dragons club, cheering on my favorite football team (the Miami Dolphins), or at home watching Star Wars.
My goal for our classroom is to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment where you feel comfortable taking risks, challenging yourself, and growing as a learner. I'm committed to helping you develop your skills, explore your passions, and become a confident, creative, and critical thinker. I'm looking forward to an amazing year together!
